I'm making another run replicas of the very first wooden object I made as a young woodworking student in 1978. Mr.iRobot and Mrs. iRobot, are made from sustainably sourced solid hardwood: Utile. The first run of just 10 pairs feature two 1GB U.S.B Flash Drive magnetically connected 'arms' for young ones or adults to house favourite pictures on a tactile and always ultra rare range of wooden products.
By offering this run of just Robots at £175.00 + P@P giving people a chance to own a collectable handmade in West Oxfordshire 'Nicholas Jones Original'.
A bespoke casement fabricated to replace a poorly executed unit made by another company that failed to the meet my client's requirements with regard to housing various African artworks.
Introducing the Miriam range of Bespoke Jewellery Chest.
A lovely commission to create a baby changing unit and wardrobe for my clients daughter.
A very rare project to fabricate bedside tables with 2nd World War Suitcases mounted in metal frames and to be delivered to Berlin in Germany.
A fantastic commission to create a spectacular focal point to my client's dressing room. It featured a combination of solid Wenge diamonds sandwiched with ash triangles.
A very nice project to create a solid mahogany mirror for my clients guest bathroom. Unusually it featured stainless steel inlays which matched an existing mirror in the bathroom.
A wonderful commission to create a bespoke dressing mirror. It featured solid ash frames with Wenge detailing and 'Romano' lights.
One of the finest cabinet making projects I've undertaken; these bedside tables were fabricated to celebrate my clients love of travelling and featured an incredible amount of fine detailing.
A fine piece of cabinet making to create a pedestal which had three main design purposes. Firstly to support the Watch Box on a heavy firm level, secondly to hide the power points for the winder transformers and lastly to house the Watch Box’s travelling/storage box. The design incorporated Wenge and American Oak timbers and also solid brass ‘corner strap’ detailing all inlaid by hand.
In conjunction with my clients interior designer (Patrick Grenier of No Cream) a plan was drawn up for the manufacture of a ‘break fronted’ Solid Oak Library to house my client’s water colour artwork and hide his L.C.D. panel. The job initially required substantial cable runs for both the lamps, L.E.D strip lights and the T.V and media player.
Work starts on one of the most challenging builds of my career. Whilst the house was being built I marked out the datum points for the cornice and down lighters in the room with regard to the positions of the alcove units. I also laid trunking in the wall and lay all of the cables necessary for both sides of the room as the left hand unit contains the Blu-Ray Player, required 240v power etc.
Another project with the design aspect of the works a joint effort including my client’s input along with mine and again Patrick Grenier of No Cream. The design incorporated drawers housing suspended files, pull out keyboard shelves, extra pull out shelves behind the top drawers to realize more worktop space and a secret electronic drawer for valued documents etc.
Work starts on a highly detailed run of bespoke wardrobes for my oldest client’s who have re-located from Paddington to a brand new build in Weybridge Surrey.
Working closely with my client’s interior designer we had the collective idea to use the area usually wasted around the sink’s waste traps by carefully designing the drawer carcase around them therefore realizing much more usable space that would otherwise be wasted. The carcases were constructed from Walnut veneered moisture resistant MDF all supplied, dimensioned and finished in kit form from Shadbolts.
This job required me to work to my client’s architects plans and although the foot-print of the wardrobes was relatively small the level of detail required meant it took me nearly 2 months to create.
"Nicholas Jones is a talented and experienced craftsman who made a substantial and varied amount of bespoke cabinetry for us when we recently moved into a newly built flat.
The major items he made for us were a wall mounted display unit with individual compartments that were each illuminated by dimmable LED lights, a floor standing unit with a retractable housing for the television, storage and built in LED lighting, two bedside tables and two mirrored bathroom cabinets and a vanity unit. He also built a rack to display patchwork quilts, an elegant frame for a mirror and installed lighting in the glass fronted top of a secretaire.
We enjoyed participating with him in the design of these objects and found him an excellent communicator and a joy to work with. The standard of finish of all his work is outstanding and he is ingenious in finding solutions to practical problems of design and execution.
We are delighted with his work and unreservedly recommend Nicholas to anybody who wants quality, imaginative bespoke cabinetry."
